How to Use the Website and How You Can Help

Posted by Melissa Monaco On January - 22 - 2010

How to use the website

The menu bar is your primary guide on the website and will take you through the different parts of the Portal.

In the different Focus Themes, the News about the theme are listed twice: as a GoogleMap or a simple list by countries, for your convenience.  On the GoogleMap, you can zoom in, zoom-out and by clicking on the red magnifying glass on the left-side of your map, a new browser tab will open with the full-screen mode of the map.

Some articles have one or several attributes called “categories”. On the Homepage, they appear in green boxes on top of the articles. They also appear on the individual article pages. By clicking on a category, all the articles with the same attribute will appear.

What are the icons below the articles? How good is content if it cannot be shared? We have made this easy to forward an article you liked by adding a social bookmarking bar. With a click, you can share it on the most popular social networks (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook…), bookmark them for your network to see (Delicious, StumbleUpon), subscribe  on your favourite news aggregator (Netvibes)  or just send the link to a friend by e-mail. It’s that easy!

Agenda: If you hold a Google account, you can subscribe to the Knowledge portal Agendas and add events to your own.

Forum: You may have noticed that you can already comment articles. However, we welcome in depth discussion in our Discussion Forum. Anyone can register and join the debate. Right now, it is mainly directed towards the “Focus” themes.

How you can help

The IIAS staff working on the Knowledge Portal is always on the look-out for the latest news, however,  the strength of the Institute lies within its network and we are counting on you to help us grow this portal. if you see an article, an interview, a publication, a conference that would be interesting for us, let us know by e-mailing Fabienne Maron (f.maron@iias-iisa.org),  Mélissa Monaco at m.monaco@iias-iisa.org and David Puie at stagiaire@iias-iisa.org. It will be reviewed and then put online, if relevant to the Portal.

Why Beta?

Usually, the Beta version of a website is released to users for testing before its official release. In the case of the PA Knowledge Portal, the Beta signs means that it is still in its testing phase. Indeed, the  Knowledge Portal being a huge project, there is room for improvement in many different fields (mainly usability but also to report bugs or new features). For this, it needs to be put to the test by you, the users.  That is why your feedback is particularly important during this development phase. If you would like to report anything (broken links, difficulties in navigating through the website…) or give us ideas about what you would like to see on the website, please e-mail Mélissa Monaco (m.monaco@iias-iisa.org) and Fabienne Maron (f.maron@iias-iisa.org). Some of you might want to get more involved in the growth of the Knowledge Portal. We welcome you with open arms and  you can request membership to our Wiki which is our working space.
