Lessons for the public sector; Australia’s government agencies are turning to business schools to help them develop their staff’s leadership abilities and communication skills

After a review demonstrated concerns about leadership and communication skills among staff at the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, action was deemed necessary.

As well as trimming its executive numbers, ASIC implemented a leadership training programme, developed and delivered by Macquarie Graduate School of Management at Sydney’s Macquarie University. About 200 middle and senior-level managers are expected to participate in the programme, which began in April and is due to run for at least two years.
